I have just been browsing on TKI and having another look at the National Standards. With our big room I know I will have more space to display relevant parts in the various curriculum areas in the room.
As a new entrant teacher I had better get it right especally the reporting to parents part. I think I need to do some parent education on them and the way of reporting but I had better wait to see if the school is doing that first.
I know the importance of collecting strong starting data and I need to think about which is the best time to do the first (reporting ) and probably meeting with the parents - is it after 6 weeks at school so we can all be aware of the child's learning needs and the part we all have to play in this?
Also it states "All students should know what goals they are working towards and why they are important." Another reminder for me about learning intentions and success criteria. Maybe the National standards need to be part of my Action Inquiry - Oral language isnt an actual NS but surely oral language is the bsais of all NE writing , reading and Maths?
